Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom Announces Grants to Counties

The Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) program is proud to announce the Cook County Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom Program received funding of $8800 for the 2017-2018 School Year.   Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom based these grants to counties off of the 2016-2017 year-end reports.  Kevin Daugherty, Education Director for the Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom program said, “County level programs are the biggest strength of our IAITC efforts.  The county programs work to integrate agriculture into existing classroom curriculum.” In 2016-2017, the Illinois AITC program reached 661,797 students with a message about agriculture.  Additionally, 40,634 teachers and 1,144 pre-service teachers learned how to incorporate agriculture into their existing curriculum while meeting state learning standards. “Cook County is privileged to have such a wonderful teaching community who is committed to including agriculture into their lessons from Grades pre-K t ...

If we don't count horses, do horses count?

It is easy to overlook horses in the agricultural landscape now that we don't depend on them for power, but their importance remains. The American Horse Council (AHC) is taking a national survey of the economic impact of U.S. horses in which Illinois will participate as a focus state. Horse owners have until July 17 to participate. Why is it important to participate? Horses are big creatures – it’s hard to hide a horse. Yet as an agriculturally important economic entity, horses are essentially hidden. It is easy to overlook horses in the agricultural landscape now that we don’t depend on them for power. Horses are unique among large farm animals in that they routinely reside in the suburbs and even in cities. Horses may be the only large farm animal an average American ever encounters, thus horses act to bridge a widening gap between the nonfarm life and agriculture. This new benefit platform provides access to member discounts while on the go. To access the new web platform, visit https://ilfb.abenity.com. Members must create an account and provide their three digit county code (Cook’s is 016) and dash followed by their membership ID number. Members can also go to the iPhone App Store, search ‘IL Farm Bureau Membership Benefits’ and download the app on their iPhone or iPad. Once downloaded, members may customize the app to include frequently used offers; search offers by business name, location and category; and provide instant in-store discounts at nearby restaurants and retailers. Cook County Farm Bureau Volunteer of the Year...

The Cook County Farm Bureau® (CCFB) Volunteer of the Year Award is an award which recognizes individuals from the CCFB who have made a significant contribution to organization through his or her dedication to, and support of, the accrediting process.

“We would like to recognize those individuals who give their time and talents to promote the goals of agriculture in the Cook County Farm Bureau.”—Jim Bloomstrand, Chairman of the Member Relations Team

The program will run on an annual basis from September 1- August 31.  All entries will be submitted to the CCFB Member Relations team to screen candidate forms.  After the team screens the forms, they will be presented to the CCFB board for recipient approval and a winner will be selected.
