Help us Celebrate Food Checkout Day 2013

For the past 13 years, Cook County Farm Bureau has partnered with the Ronald McDonald House Charities®.   Through this partnership, Farm Bureau members and volunteers have been able to donate much needed food, pop tabs and funds to assist families during the most difficult time of their lives, when a child is sick.  The 2013 Food Checkout Day program will be held on Thursday, February 21 at the world’s largest Ronald McDonald House located near Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago and at the Ronald McDonald House located near Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn. Please consider joining us in this great effort!  Food and pop tab donation can be dropped off at your local Country Financial Agency or the Cook County Farm Bureau office.  Cash donations can be sent to: Cook CFB, 6438 Joliet Road in Countryside, IL 60525.  Checks should be made out to Ronald McDonald House Charities®. County Staff Exchange Program Receives National Award

In October Cook County Farm Bureau staff learned that the County Staff Exchange Program was named a 2013 County Activity of Excellence (CAE) by the American Farm Bureau Federation®. CAE Awards are designed to celebrate and recognize unique volunteer-driven programming at the local level.  The County Staff Exchange Program was submitted in the Policy Implementation category. Cook CFB volunteers and leadership will be recognized in the CAE Showcase and during the American Farm Bureau Federation® (AFBF) Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee in January.  The County Staff Exchange Program enabled 20 participants from County government to tour farm and farm businesses throughout the County.  Tour stops included a national recognized horse racetrack, an inmate/urban farm education program, food safety institute, and a vegetable farm/farmstand, apiary.  This program illustrated the breadth of farming and farm businesses in the County as well as the impact of farming and farming busin ...

Farm Bureau Concerned About Aspects of the County's Budget Proposal

Since 2010 Cook County Government has changed drastically led in full by the forward thinking of Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle and the Cook County Board of Commissioners.   In three short years the County will finalize the rollback of the Stroger sales tax saving consumers $440 million and despite a weakened economy and declining revenues the County has grown their fund balance from $61 million to $197 million.  Cook County Farm Bureau® policy states that “We support the elimination of the one percent sales tax increase implemented in 2008.”  (Cook CFB policy #202, page 5).     The FY 13 budget proposal overwhelmingly addresses the County’s structural deficit.  Cook County Farm Bureau®, the County’s largest general farm organization applauds you for your consistent commitment to reducing expenditures, managing debt, and increasing transparency. 942 Pound Pumpkin - Largest in Giant Pumpkin Contest History!

You read that number correct, Don Carlson was the adult division winner at the 12th Annual Giant Pumpkin Contest held at Puckerville Farms last Saturday.  It took 10 strong men to lift it to a cart for the weigh in!  Don wasn't the only winner in the family, his wife Kelly won the Pumpkin Pie Contest and Donny decorated a pumpkin in the decorating contest.  Click on the link for all the event's happenings and contest results.

Buy Your Tickets Now For the 6th Annual Member Appreciation Banquet

The Member Relations Team is excited to invite Members to the 6th Annual Member Appreciation Banquet on Thursday November 8th at Georgio's Banquets in Orland Park (8800 W. 159th St).

Banquet begins at 5:30 p.m. with Hors D'oeuvres & Silent Auction (all proceeds benefit our scholarships, internsips and Ag in the Classroom Programs).  Dinner follows at 7:00 p.m.  The dinner will be family style and includes Roast Sirloin of Beef, Broiled Chicken Breast and Rigatoni with Italian Sausage.

Please bring non-perishable foods for Ronald McDonald House Charities and any new or gently used toys for Toy Box Connection to the banquet.

Property Tax Appeal Seminar in Proviso with the Cook County Farm Bureau

Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Dan Patlak is announcing a property tax appeal seminar that will be offered to taxpayers in Proviso Township seeking to appeal their 2012 property tax assessments. The seminar is co-sponsored by the Cook County Farm Bureau, an organization dedicated to providing its members with meaningful and beneficial programs that reflect the agricultural heritage of the county. The hour long session will educate taxpayers on how to file a successful tax appeal in a time when the economy is putting added pressures to home and business owners. The seminar includes a presentation by Commissioner Dan Patlak explaining how property taxes are calculated and the appeal procedure of the Board of Review. Before the end of the evening, taxpayers will have an opportunity to work with staff from the Board of Review to address their specific questions and concerns. 12th Annual Giant Pumpkin Contest

2011 contest winner Don Carlson with son Donnie Join us on Saturday October 20th at Puckerville Farms for the Giant Pumpkin Contest.  Along with this contest, you can also be a part of the Jack-O-Lantern Decorating/Painting Contest and the Pumpkin Pie Contest. There is no entry fee for members!  Non-members may enter the contest by joining the Cook County Farm Bureau. Giant Pumpkin Contest:  There are two divisions for this contest (Adult and Youth-16 years or younger)  Pumpkin must be grown by member or dependent.  Member may enter only one pumpkin into the contest.  Three members of the Commodities/Marketing Team will serve as the weigh-in judges.  The decision of the judges is final. Cook County Farm Bureau is hosting a Members Only Shred Day on Saturday, October 13 2012 from 10am to 12-noon and a Members Only Electronic Recycling Day from 8am to 12-noon at the Oak Forest Country Financial Building located at 4845 W. 167th St.  in Oak Forest. 

Bring items that you would like to be shredded/recycled FREE OF CHARGE! (There is a $10 charge for computer monitors only)  Please call the CCFB at 708.354.3276 to make a reservation.
