Join us in Celebrating Food Checkout Day

For the past 13 years, Cook County Farm Bureau has partnered with the Ronald McDonald House Charities®.   Through this partnership, Farm Bureau members and volunteers have been able to donate much needed food, pop tabs and funds to assist families during the most difficult time of their lives, when a child is sick.  The 2013 Food Checkout Day program will be held on Thursday, February 21 at the world’s largest Ronald McDonald House located near Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago and at the Ronald McDonald House located near Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn. Please consider joining us in this great effort!  Food and pop tab donation can be dropped off at your local Country Financial Agency or the Cook County Farm Bureau office.  Cash donations can be sent to: Cook CFB, 6438 Joliet Road in Countryside, IL 60525.  Checks should be made out to Ronald McDonald House Charities®. Deadline Approaching for 2013 Foundation Scholarship Applications

The Cook County Farm Bureau Foundation’s Scholarship Program continues to grow each year as the number of applicants increases. “Our members are realizing that an agricultural career provides broad and exciting possibilities”, explains Jim Gutzmer, Foundation President. And what is an agricultural career? It is a chosen pursuit or profession related to the broad area of producing, marketing, manufacturing, transporting, studying, teaching, and developing food, fiber, fuel and pharmacy products originating from the farm. Examples of agricultural careers include horticulturist, food scientist, animal nutritionist, genetic engineering, farmer, veterinarian, commodity broker, dietitian, turf producer, agricultural engineer and the list goes on and on. Perhaps you may wish to check out the broad and rewarding possibilities with one out of every four jobs in the United States related to agriculture. Students Learn about Food, Fiber and Fuel

Forth grade students in Cook County learn more about the extraordinary uses of corn during an Ag in the Classroom "In School Field Trip".  This free program teaches students about agriculture's connections to food, fiber and fuel.  Teachers or school administrators interested in scheduling an "In School Field Trip" for their school should contact (708) 354-3276 and ask for the Ag in the Classroom department or email aitc2@cookcfb.org.

Cook County Legislator visits Ag Literacy Presentation

State Representative Will Davis along with a small group of elementary school students matches grains, such as corn and soybeans with their more unknown end products such as fireworks and clothing during an Ag in the Classroom presentation in Cook County.

2nd Congressional District Candidate Forum

Second Congressional District candidates will be discussing issues important to citizens residing in the Second Congressional District on Saturday, February at Peotone High School (Auditorium), located at 605 W. North Street in Peotone. Candidates will discuss their positions related to the creation of a Peotone Airport, the Illiana Expressway, job growth/economic development, and fiscal policies. Cook County Farm Bureau®, Will County Farm Bureau®, STAND, Will County Commissioner Judy Ogalla (District 1) and Kankakee County Commissioner John Howard (District 4) along with other concerned citizens strongly encourage the public to attend this nationally watched race to meet the candidates wishing to represent the constituents of the 2nd Congressional District. Deadline Approaching for 2013 Foundation Scholarship Applications

The Foundation is proud to announce the 15th Annual Agricultural Scholarship Program. The Cook County Farm Bureau Foundation is offering college students the opportunity to start or continue his/her higher education with a scholarship.  Last year, the Foundation provided ten scholarships ranging from $1,000.00 - $2,500 a piece. The Board will name the top applicant as the Howard Paarlberg Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship recipient.  The Foundation will award a scholarship (s) to college students pursuing agriculturally related fields of study. The Conserv FS FFA Scholarship for $1,000 will also be offered to a High School Senior in an approved FFA Program.

Applications must be completed and submitted to the CCFB Foundation by February 20th, 2013. Late applications will not be considered.

Members Continue to Save on Ford Vehicles

Illinois Farm Bureau members will continue to save big bucks on the purchase of qualifying Ford vehicles. According to Melissa Rhode, IFB Membership and Program Director, the Ford discount has been renewed for another year. “We are excited that we can continue to offer this fantastic discount to our members,” she said. “Thanks to our partnership with Ford Motor Company, IFB members receive $500 Bonus Cash to be put toward the purchase or lease of select new eligible Ford or Lincoln vehicles,” she added. The Ford Bonus Cash offer is good on the purchase or lease of an eligible new 2012, 2013 or 2014 model year Ford or Lincoln vehicle. (The Mustang Shelby GT/GT500, Mustang Boss 302, Focus EV, Focus S, Fiesta S, Focus ST, Edge SE AWD (12MY), F-150 Raptor, Taurus SE and 13MY MKZ including Hybrid are excluded.)
