NEW FFA SCHOLARSHIP OFFER (FarmWeek) - FFA members who are high school seniors or college freshmen, sophomores or juniors pursuing in agriculture – related major may apply for a $10,138 Winning Has Roots scholarship. The new scholarship represents an effort by NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer, the national FFA organization and DeKalb brand corn. At the October 18 NASCAR cup race, Bowyer completed 267 laps the fund the scholarship. Eligible FFA members pursuing a major in agribusiness systems, biotechnology systems or plant systems can apply for the scholarship through January 14 by visiting the National FFA website at ffa.org/scholarships
ASA SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE (FarmWeek) - the American Soybean Association (ASA) will accept applications for the Savoy scholarship award through December 6. The scholarship, a one time, $5000 award, recognizes an outstanding high school senior who plans to pursue agriculture as an area of study at any accredited college or university in the 2021 – 22 academic year. U.S. TO SIGN LIMITED TRADE DEAL WITH BRAZIL (New York Times) – The new pact is expected to ease trade barriers, strengthen regulation and crackdown on corruption. The pact, the latest in a series of “mini” trade deals inked by the Trump administration, follows seven months of negotiations between the United States and Brazil.
CREAM CHEESE GRAND CHAMP (FarmWeek) - Farm Bureau affiliated company, Prairie Farms Dairy, had its Cream Cheese named the grand champion of the North Central Cheese Industries Association annual cheese contest.
AMERICAN FARM BUREAU NATIONAL MEETING GOES VIRTUAL (AFBF) - The American Farm Bureau Federation announced in October that its 102nd annual convention would be held online following the cancellation of all events through January 31, 2021 at the San Diego Convention Center where the convention was scheduled to take place. The virtual Convention will be held January 10 through the 13th, 2021 to bring together farmers, ranchers and industry experts to discuss top issues facing agriculture, COVID -19 impact, sustainability and the future of the supply chain. Registration for the virtual convention will open soon and will be free to all attendees.
UNITED CARRIER REGISTRATION (URC) IS NOW OPEN (IFB) - United Carrier Registration (UCR) is now open and due by December 31, 2020. If you have a USDOT number, you must complete the UCR. You can do so at www.ucr.gov.
