Soil and Water Conservation District to Host Farm Tour
The Will-South Cook Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) will host a tour of the Jim Robbins farm located in Wilton Township, Will County, on Wednesday, August 15th. Starting at 3:00 p.m., participants will have an opportunity to view the actual construction site of a grassed waterway demonstrating a popular conservation practice that is used to manage field drainage.
The tour will include field stops with a strip-till practice, a cover crop using a radish/oat seed mix and a soil pit where a soil profile evaluation will be completed. There will also be a demonstration of infiltration rates and soil loss/erosion using a rainfall simulator.
Join us along with a group of knowledgeable speakers for a day of exploration and idea sharing. The tour will conclude at 5:30, with a pork chop dinner provided by the SWCD. Reservations by August 6th are appreciated and can be made by calling the district office at 815-462-3106 ext.3 or sending an email to [email protected].
An agenda and map will be available at www.will-scookswcd.org by August 10th. Hard copies can also be obtained via email or USPS by requesting such at the time of registration.
