"The Future’s Right Now"
When I was in school, I remember going on an 8th grade class trip to Springfield and high school trips to Washington, D.C.
I still have the photos from those trips in albums at home. I remember rubbing the nose on the statue at Abraham Lincoln’s tomb and walking around for what seemed like miles on the National Mall. I also remember having fun on the bus with friends, enjoying my time out of the classroom and out and about in “the real world.”

Local Veteran finds mission in community garden
When the Marine veteran returned to civilian life after serving in Iraq in the early 2000s, adjusting to his new world was challenging.
“I was having difficulties fitting in when I wasn’t busy, and my doctor said you need to find something to take care of in your downtime so that you don’t just focus on the past,” he said. “I needed something to keep me in the moment, and that something was bees and chickens.”
Archer’s hobby ultimately morphed into a community garden in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood. The 60-by-125-foot plot has been in his family since the 1920s. A house on the property was demolished, but the garden required significant soil preparation due to lead contamination.

Finger foods deliver holiday fun, spark conversation
Butcher block paper covered the 60-inch round table, transforming it into an oversized food platter. Piles of cubed cheeses, sliced cured meats, olives, fruits, veggies and spreads dominated that five-foot-diameter space. Salami shaped into roses, fanned crackers and varying flavors of cheeses gave aesthetic appeal to a party spread worthy of a meal.

The diet
Farmers are great at producing food. Meat, eggs, dairy, grains, fish, vegetables, fruit. That seems to cover all the options.
The rest of it is on “us” … How we prepare food, cook food, process food, enhance food, consume food.
