In November, I led a virtual workshop for teachers to earn continuing education hours about agriculture’s connections to winter holidays. My portion of the workshop was one hour long, and at first, I worried about being able to find a topic or two to talk about for an hour.

Cook County farmers are encouraged to complete the Farmland Affidavit prior to January 31. The Assessor’s office will not mail out a copy or a reminder, and the filing can only occur online.

According to a recent WalletHub survey, nearly three in four people say their financial situation impacts their mental well-being, and 69% of Americans feel insecure about their finances. It’s no wonder so many of us are tired of traditional “new year, new budget” advice. Financial wellness doesn’t have to mean strict spreadsheets it’s about taking small, actionable steps to feel more in control.

Hosted a Holiday Wreath & Bow Making class at the Farm Bureau where members learned from an industry expert creating beautiful wreaths and bows just in time for holiday decorating.

Since taking office in 2023, the Mayor of Chicago has introduced three budget proposals. First was the 2024 budget, also known as a grace period budget, proposed by a brand-new mayor, freshly elected, having never served in city government.

At the November 12, 2025 meeting of the Cook County Farm Bureau Board, following the Annual Meeting, the Directors elected its leadership team for the upcoming year. The following individuals were selected to lead the Cook County Farm Bureau in 2026.

My Spiritual Gifts Quiz from church put hospitality at the top of my list. Mom didn’t take the quiz, but I’ll bet the Lievens 40 she’d score the same. So, with a strong service mindset and the shop space to match, we host. In the last 10 years, our farm has hosted two weddings, FFA and 4-H meetings, farmer events, a bridal shower, my daughter’s graduation party, and last summer, the first-ever all-class reunion for our local high school.
